Castle Ashby Gardens_Family Portraits Northampton

Outdoor location photography is fantastic, but living in the UK as we do this is hard, the weather is unpredictable to say the least!  When people call to book a location photo session they often ask me what will happen if the weather is bad.  Usually I will do photographs in your own home or outdoors if the weather allows – its simply not possible to run a business in this country if you have to postpone sessions every time it rains.  However sometimes people would prefer not to have photos at home – especially if children are older or tend to need a bit of space to burn off their energy.   So I was really delighted when I discovered my current favourite spot for location photos in Northamptonshire – Castle Ashby.  The house itself is a stunning wedding venue but it has some beautiful gardens with some fantastic undercover areas which are really beautiful are perfect if it rains.

The session below was planned on a day when rain was forecast – as it happened we luckily missed two torrential downpours and caught a great hour in the middle (sheet luck) but here’s a little test for you…… All the images in this session were taken in the Gardens at Castle Ashby – some are taken completely undercover (where you wouldn’t get wet at all) and some are taken out in the open ….. hard to tell the difference isn’t it ?   If you live near Northampton, Yardley Hastings, Lavendon, Olney, Milton Keynes or Wellingborough this would be my first choice of location in bad weather – hope you like the images:)

Toddler Portraits in Northampton

The last couple of weeks have been all about Toddlers – which is always fun !!  I’ve had a few photoshoots with 2 year olds – they are always challenging to photograph as they are so active, and so intrigued by things and not always easy to encourage away from something they are determined to do.   I did this particular shoot in Northampton where we took a few pictures in the house and then went for a walk nearby.  This little chap was a real joy to photograph and really good fun.  I hope you like them.

What a little stunner – so cute with the prettiest eyes and eyelashes….

We had lots of fun playing with sticks and dandelion clocks ….

And we finished up with a few shots with Mum:)

Family Portraits Olney_Buckinghamshire

I love family sessions – especially when everyone takes part – not just the children.  This session was done at the Wollaston playing Fields,  in Wollaston, near Wellingborough, Northamptonshire – with the children, the parents, uncle and Grandparents and even Mr Potatohead – we had great fun playing in the woods, on the swings, climbing the big tree trunks and running about.   I can take photos for you at the location of your choice – this one was ideal for children of different ages.  I photographed these particular children about a year ago, so it was wonderful to see them again and see how much they’d grown.  They’ve been living in the USA in the interim so it was lovely to see them spending time with their Grandparents – who miss them very much – and also hear those little American accents developing.  I hope you enjoy the images.

It was very hard to narrow down this session as I had so many personal favourites.  The first image really sums up for me the fun of taking pictures of children !

These last couple I really really love – one because its a wonderful Daddy and his little girl shot and the other for the sheer joy on the face of the little one on the swing:)

Portraits of Children_Olney_Milton Keynes

As a portrait photographer based near Olney I am lucky to have lots of beautiful parks and outdoor areas to take families for portrait sessions.  This particular session took place on the Wollaston Playing Fields as I was photographing  two little boys who love the outdoors and there were trees to climb and great hiding places, and lots of sticks to play sword fighting – an ideal spot for some fun photos.

Here’s a selection of my favourite images from the session – I hope you like them.

Outdoor Family Portraits_Chesham

One of the things I try to do with my family portrait sessions (weather depending of course) is to choose a location that is meaningful to the family.  So for this location portrait session in chesham we went down to a lovely little wood alongside a stream where the children play all the time – that way the years later the photos become a really good memory of somewhere that the children spent hours playing when they were young.

Here are a few of my favourite ones – hope you like them.
