ADVICE FOR YOUR SESSION – WHAT TO WEAR AND HOW I STYLE A NEWBORN SESSION
A newborn shoot isn’t just about the posing – part of the impact of the images lies in the styling of the colours, textures, blankets and any simple props that are used. I will have an idea of what you like prior to the session but we will select colours and looks along the way. You can have lots of input on colours or you can leave me to make the choices at my discretion.
I will have a selection of blankets, wraps, baskets etc.. that we can use and I will set up the shots accordingly.
If parents and siblings are in pictures my general clothing advice stands. For newborn shoots, I recommend plain clothes that tone well. Pastel colours tend to look particularly nice for baby shots as they create a nice soft look to the colour images. Just try to coordinate and have a matching colour palette across all of you. Spots, stripes, patterns, logos and anything that is distracting in the image should be avoided.
With the baby keep it simple – plain babygros are ideal – nothing too fussy as we want the beauty of the baby to stand out and the pictures to be about you interacting with the baby. I bring a selection of coloured blankets and wraps which I use during the shoot – matching their colours to the babies eyes or your clothing or if we are outdoors nice earthy natural colours. I will most likely take some of the baby without clothes, these are done tastefully and safely, keeping the baby warm at all times.
